As a full-time freelance writer with a lifetime involvement
in animal and environmental issues my work often profiles ‘out of the mainstream’ subjects whose lifestyles or
actions enhance relationships with the natural world or minimize negative impacts. I’m a contributor to
Driving Digest, Carriage Driving Magazine (UK), Back Home, Harrowsmith Country Life, American Small Farm, Draft Horse Journal,
Mother Earth News, Rural Heritage Magazine, Small Farmer’s Journal, The Chronicle of the Horse, E-Magazine, Country
Living, Wildlife Watch Binocular, Heavy Horse World (UK), Farm & Dairy, Ohio Farmer, Farm Times, Sawmill & Woodlot,
Birds & Blooms, Persimmon Hill, New Mexico, Enchantment and others. My work has also been published in Country
Journal, Action Line Magazine, Das Zugpferd (GR), Corriente Corresponder, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, The Sun, Country
Traveler, Ohio’s Amish Country, Ford Times, The Friendly Exchange, Woods & Water News, Creatures Corner News, Animal
People, Veggie Digest, The Woolly Times, The Cape Breton Connection, Firelands Farmer, The Horseman’s Corral, Bee Culture,
Mules & More, Broomtail (AU) and many other publications. As She Lay Dying was published in the 2004 Writing
the River Anthology. Here Lies Jack, a short story about a dog that refused to stay buried was awarded 2nd place for
prose in Anthology Magazine. The Peaceable Kingdom News & Views was an environmental-theme newsletter which
I created and published for two years circulated by subscription only. I strive for objectivity and to provoke
readers to look at life from different perspectives. One such example done in a point-counterpoint format examined allegations
by animal rights activists against Sea World of Ohio. This and another article were excerpted by Sea World of Ohio for inclusion
in their public relations literature. My life is shared with 3 dogs, 8 cats, 2 donkeys and a flock of geriatric
free-range chickens. I’m currently at work on a collection of short stories. Samples of my work can be viewed at the following links: http://drafthorsejournal.com/autumn2008/feature.htm
